Is there a fee to participate?
No participation fee for approved reenactors — your contribution is your passion and display!
Is modern camping gear allowed?
We encourage period-appropriate setups but allow discretion for comfort and safety. There will be limited non-historical camping available for reenactors and volunteers.
Can we sell goods from our encampment?
Yes, provided it has been approved.
What should I include in my reenactor application?
When applying to join the Southern Realm Festival, please provide:
Your name or group name – Who will be attending?
Your historical focus or era – What time period do you represent?
Type of participation – Are you a solo performer, part of a living history group (if so approximately how many people), or a combat enthusiast?
Description of your display or performance – Include props, costumes, and any special requirements.
Space or equipment needs – Let us know if you require a larger tent, power access, or other facilities.
Providing these details helps our team review your application efficiently and ensure your reenactment fits safely and smoothly into the festival.
What are the rules around weapons for reenactors?
All reenactors are responsible for keeping their weapons safe and in good condition. Before use, every weapon must be approved by Southern Realm Festival staff. Only blunt, non-sharp weapons with rounded tips are permitted — live or edged blades are strictly prohibited.
Certain restricted items (such as maces without a licence under Queensland law) are not allowed on site. Only pre-approved weapons may be used in combat or demonstration activities, and organisers may halt any display immediately if safety concerns arise.
Weapons must never be left unattended, and members of the public may only handle them during supervised, organiser-approved interactive sessions.
